About Carolyn Mair

Using an evidence-base to derive deep insights and data-driven predictions, my work is concerned with empowering professionals and students from a range of disciplines to integrate knowledge from psychology and fashion to build a greater understanding of human behaviour across all contexts within the fashion industry. Contact me carolyn@psychology.fashion Dr Carolyn Mair is Professor of Psychology for Fashion and Consultant to industry. A Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the British Psychological Society based in London, Carolyn’s work is concerned with using fashion and clothing as a vehicle for making a positive difference. Formerly Subject Director for Psychology at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, Carolyn designed and led the world’s only degree programmes to apply psychological science in the context of fashion. This initiative was recognised nationally in 2016 when the MSc Applied Psychology in Fashion won the British Psychological Society’s prestigious Innovative Programme Award. She was awarded a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience, MSc in Research Methods Psychology and BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology and Computing, consequently her research interests are multidisciplinary. Carolyn has led and collaborated on many multidisciplinary and international research projects and consulted for commerce and industry. Carolyn’s research now focuses on understanding and supporting the development of well-being and resilience across the broad context of the fashion industries through the application of psychological science. Prior to becoming an academic, she worked as a visual merchandiser, graphic designer, dress maker and portrait artist. Drawing on her creative background, successful career within Higher Education and breadth of consultancy experience, Carolyn is the go-to person for evidence-based psychological insights within the fashion industry.
