Professor Carolyn Mair, PhD, CPsychol, FBPsS

Career Goal

Using an evidence-base to derive deep insights and data-driven predictions, my work is concerned with empowering professionals, practitioners and learners from a range of disciplines to integrate knowledge from psychology and fashion to build a greater understanding of their own and others’ behaviour across all contexts within the fashion industry.

  • Authored The Psychology of Fashion, to be published by Routledge in 2018
  • Created and led unique, innovative Masters and BSc programmes at one of the world’s top Arts universities that addressed an unacknowledged gap in provision

Professor of Psychology for Fashion, London College of Fashion

Achievements and responsibilities:

  • Identified the need for the application of Psychology in the context of fashion
  • Developed the world’s first and still only, Masters and Bachelors programmes to apply Psychology in the context of fashion
  • Successfully achieved British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation for the MSc Applied Psychology in Fashion
  • Awarded BPS 2016 Innovative Programme award for MSc Applied Psychology in Fashion
  • Continue to recruit a diverse student cohort beyond target
  • Proposed, created and led the Wellbeing Research hub at LCF which runs 5 public-facing events annually. Each event sells out with up to 250 attendees from business, press, media, academia and practice
